Welcome to the Mother Church of the Diocese of Steubenville!
Home to almost 40,000 Catholics and guardian of over half-a-million souls, the Diocese of Steubenville is blessed with a rich history of service and sacrifice for the sake of the Kingdom of God. The original Holy Name of Jesus Church (1885-1944) was designated to be the Cathedral for the newly formed Diocese of Steubenville in 1945. Its large spires, reminiscent of many of the great Cathedrals in Europe, are still talked about. Unfortunately, structural deficiencies resulted in the stately structure having to be rebuilt in 1957, and much of its former grandeur was sacrificed.
But Holy Name Cathedral will soon be a striking addition to the Steubenville, Ohio skyline once more! The Diocese is launching the Holy Name Cathedral Renovation, Restoration, and Renewal campaign in 2016, and the Cathedral will again be a beacon of the Catholic Church in the Ohio Valley.
Stay tuned to this page for updates, and we will be keeping you informed of the progress in rebuilding your Cathedral.
