Mary "Honey Bay" Brown Johnson
The Woman Behind the Name
Born in Coatopa, AL in 1920, "Honey Bay" was a town matron known for making some of the best southern cooking, straight from the heart. Honey Bay's cooking was always made with love, as she was known to feed many town locals and out-of-towners during her infamous Sunday dinner rituals. As a mother of 12, she taught her children to pour the same love into their cooking. In the early 1970s, most of Honey Bay's children migrated to Waukegan, IL. In 2004, the Johnson Family decided to share their mother's love for cooking with the community and opened "Honey Bay's Country Kitchen".
Now, we're back and proud to bring you "Honey Bay's BBQ". With our rich family history of great cooking, Lake County, IL is in store for a treat!
