Hontoon Island State Park - Official Site

Hontoon Island State Park is located in the St. Johns River in Volusia County, in the city of Deland. Visitors are welcome to enjoy nature and history in quiet solitude. The island is accessible only by private boat or park ferry. Evidence of Native American habitation over thousands of years can be witnessed as visitors hike or bike through the parks many trails. Stop in and walk through the impressive visitor center to learn more about the many inhabitants and uses of Hontoon Island over the years. Boating, canoeing, bike riding, hiking and fishing are popular activities.Bike and Canoe/kayak rentals are available on the island or bring your own. The picnic areas include tables, grills, and a playground. There is also a covered pavilion with electricity that seats 24 people available for rent or on a first come first serve basis. The island has 6 cabins and 11 camp sites. Overnight boat slip rentals are also available. The island store will help you with anything you might have forgotten for your stay including: ice, fire wood, sundries, hot coffee, cocoa and tea. sit in one of the rocking chairs overlooking the river and have some ice cream. We have some great flavors to chose from. The park's ferry operates daily from 8:00 a.m. to one hour before sunset.
