Tammy Hankins was born in Jasper, Alabama.She spent many of her adolescent years in and out of Juvenile Detention centers.
Pregnant at the age of 17, and a high school drop-out, she suffered abusive relations and battled drug and alcohol addiction for many years. By the grace of God and a 12step program, she is recovered mentally, physically, and spiritually. MAY 2005 Tammy Hankins dedicated her life to (H.)elping (O.)ther (P.) Eople (E.)verywhere. (Hope Inc.) Tammy has felt Gods directing hand to return to Jasper and give back some of what has been given. Ms. Hankins has been in recovery from a long struggle with drug addiction for over 11 years, dragging herself from the streets to a position of service. Tammy at Pearson Hall in Birmingham, got on her knees asking God to intervene and found her way to recovery. She got clean, stayed clean, graduated Nursing School and is now a Licensed Practical Nurse. Even with her successful life, Tammy has surrendered to God's will for her to come back home and help those seeking recovery today and in the future. We know nearly everyone in our county has been touched by addiction, either directly or indirectly. Until now our recovering mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers, sons and daughters have had no local place to turn for help. Tammy has developed a 3 phase process, taking those wanting recovery off the street providing shelter, food and essentials of life (Phase1)and moving them into a transition phase that teaches how to live without alcohol or drugs using the power of Jesus Christ and God's will in a 12 step ministry (Phase2) Finally, they reach an "independent " stage (Phase3) making a good life for themselves and their family while tethered to the program through regular meetings, alcohol/drug screening and most important the continued dependence on God's Grace and Mercy to guide the recovery process.
