Hope Rises

Women face a unique pathway to crime that differs from men. This pathway is often unaddressed in the male-dominated correctional setting or by reentry service providers. To reduce the risk of re-incarceration, research confirms the importance of addressing the following factors common to women:

• History of physical, sexual, or emotional abuse
• Poor mental and physical health
• Abuse of substances, often to self-medicate mental health issues (comorbidity)
• Economically disadvantaged often with few skills and irregular work histories
• The return to full-time parenting

Our programming is based on a holistic model, which unites an understanding of “mind, body, and spirit”. These principles along with non-punitive and compassionate support create an empowerment approach that helps move the woman forward to the future and remove the stigma of their past identities.
Our program will include the following components implemented by the Hope Rises’ team:

Personal Empowerment--Increase knowledge and skills in the areas of: self-esteem, stress management, decision-making, relationships, parenting, sexual health, relapse prevention, and trauma recovery.

Whole Health-- Improve physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of clients by focusing on: healthy food, gardening, physical activity, meditation, and disease prevention.

Economic Empowerment-- Improve economic outlook through: financial literacy, budgets, entrepreneurship training, mentorship, work readiness training and referrals.

Evidenced-Based Case-Management-- Decrease reentry barriers by providing services in: individualized, gender-responsive case plan; counseling, peer mentors, community engagement and referrals based on client’s individual physical and mental health, housing, legal, and economic needs.
