Hortulus Farm is an original William Penn land grant of 1697. The Isaiah Warner house, built between 1723 and 1793, is the anchor around which the gardens were created by owners landscape architect Renny Reynolds and writer Jack Staub. The gardens are composed of twenty-four separate, formal gardens on 30 of the farm's 100 acres, including pastoral walks, idyllic ponds and streams, intriguing follies, and dramatic vistas. In spring, the property is ablaze with over 200,000 daffodils, narcissus, bluebells, native dogwoods, and Delaware Valley white azaleas. Particularly notable later in the season are imposing perennial and summer borders, a lush stream garden, a woodland walk, birch and pine allees, pool and fountain gardens, and a splendidly reconceived kitchen garden. The historic barns and outbuildings at Hortulus Farm (circa 1860) are home to a colorfully diverse family of farm animals, including horses, sheep, dogs, chickens, ducks, peacocks, swans, and pheasants.
