Since 1945, Houston Metropolitan Federal Credit Union has provided the finest in financial services to the present, former, and retired employees of our sponsor companies. Once you join the Credit Union your immediate family is eligible to join the Credit Union. Our policy is “Once a Member Always a Member” even if you change jobs, retire or move away, your membership continues and you continue to enjoy its benefits. From time to time, the Credit Union's field of membership changes to allow additional groups to join. Houston Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union is different from other financial institutions, because it is owned by the members who save and borrow here. The Credit Union was chartered for the purpose of offering a benefit to our members (both savers and borrowers ) that gives them an economic advantage over other financial institutions with the same or similar services.

Members are united by common bonds and democratically operate the Credit Union under federal regulation. Members elect from among themselves the volunteers to serve on the Board of Directors, which sets policies and establishes bylaws for the credit union. The job of running the day-to-day operation of the Credit Union is delegated to the professional staff.

After deducting expenses and funds for reserves, as required by law, Credit Union income is returned to the members as dividends on savings, as lower interest on loans and/or as free or low-cost special services.
