Howard Family Martial Arts

Howard Family Martial Arts has been giving back to Harlan County since 2003. We teach traditional Kempo Karate with classes for children and adults ages 5 and up. Kids and Adults train separately. Gyodokan Kaizen Kempo Karate is a combination of Traditional Kempo Karate, Escrima (Filipino Stickfighting) and Taekwondo. We also have classes in the art of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu for ages 12 and up.
We teach values to Children like HONOR, RESPECT, and SELF-CONFIDENCE. We teach adults MENTAL and physical DISCIPLINE and the most practical of SELF-DEFENSE techniques.

About the Instructor: Daniel Howard,Shihan - 8th degree black belt in Kempo Karate.
Daniel Howard has over 35 years in the martial arts and holds black belt and instructor rankings in several arts. He is the director of Gyodokan Kempo Karatedo and American Escrima, he is the Kempo and Escrima division head for the 3 Mountain Martial Arts Federation and serves on the Shihan (Master) board for the Federation. He is also a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu under Prof. Brian Jones and is an affiliate of the Valhalla Grappling Academy and the Carlson Gracie Jr. Association. He is the official self-defense instructor for the Harlan County Domestic Violence Council and travels throughout the year teaching seminars and competing. Master Howard is a 3 time international karate champion and has won several state and regional titles. Master Howard works as a deputy at the Harlan County Detention Center and serves as the training coordinator and supervisor.

On Oct. 1, 2013 Master Howard was inducted into the International Martial Arts Hall of Fame as Grandmaster Instructor of the Year.
