Hudson Heritage Farms is a veteran owned and operated multi-species livestock farm located in the Elmo area of Halifax County. We are interested in the perpetuation of Heritage Breeds of Livestock raised in harmony with other traditional breeds. Our farm produces Scottish Highland Cattle, Horned Dorset Sheep, various breeds of Swine, Boer Goats, various breeds of Poultry and free-range eggs. Our farm proudly exercises sustainable agricultural practices, and strives to raise the healthiest animals possible by providing a natural stress-free environment.
Our cattle, sheep, goats and hogs are pasture-raised, grazing on open pasture throughout the year and fed hay as needed in the winter months. Our chickens and swine are pasture-raised as well, and given appropriate amounts of grains to ensure proper health and growth. Our herds and flocks are grazed in an Intensive Rotational Grazing system to ensure that they are eating only from lush, tender pasture, which is grown from soils receiving only natural amendments such as compost, green manures and minerals. All of our livestock are raised naturally without hormones, steroids, unnecessary antibiotics or additives. Because of this, we believe that you will find our meat to be a more pure, fresh and flavorful. We do all this for the health and best interests of our animals, and our customers.
We are members of Virginia Grown, Virginia's Finest, and Home Grown by Heroes Programs. Our meats can be purchased at the Halifax Farmers' Market, Farm Direct by appointment, and at the Halifax-South Boston Visitors Center.
