More about HumanKind Yoga

My name is Jessica Popp.

I started practicing yoga a few years ago in response to a personal crisis. I was a hard working single mother and full time college student, deeply concerned about the trappings of poverty in a culture that neglects its most vulnerable. I was juggling a demanding work schedule in the bar and restaurant business, and I was struggling with substance abuse.

I needed some peace. Some relief. I needed a healthier coping mechanism. I could not will my troubles away, and I was hungry for a fresh perspective and a sense of renewed hope.
I needed an opportunity for healing.

I decided to try yoga at a studio nearby, curious about its claims. Calmness. Relaxation. Flexibility. Renewed energy.
I felt I had everything to gain by giving it a try. So I tried. And I tried again.
And each time I showed up on that mat, I felt a stirring of inner strength. I felt a profound sense of gratitude. I felt the sweetness of myself, buried beneath the pile of rubble of self doubt, weariness, and emotional pain; bubble to the surface.

Yoga left me feeling lighter every time.
I could feel myself inching my way toward wholeness. So I just kept on showing up.

I have been blessed to have exceptional teachers, well educated in things like proper body mechanics and anatomy, as well as yogic philosophy. Ones who are committed to living their yoga. Ones who remind their students of their intrinsic value, their purpose on the planet, and all of their potential.

I am a very fortunate woman to have had such gifted teachers. Their examples have inspired me to offer my own students a taste of the benefits of mindful movement and awareness, with a continued commitment to social justice.

I am committed to teaching here, there, and everywhere. From college campuses to living rooms. From studios to state parks. From elementary schools to retirement homes. All we need is space. Let's get creative with it.

All classes are beginner friendly with plenty of room for more experienced practitioners to expand their own practices.

Workshops offer additional educational opportunities for curious seekers, each centered on an individual theme. We explore subjects like healthy body image, self care, the importance of mindfulness, as well as ways to foster healthy sexuality.

I welcome anyone with a curiosity about the nature and benefits of yoga to inquire within. ;-) And after you are through asking yourself if you ought to try, please give me a call or shoot me an e-mail.

Gratefully Yours,

Jessica Popp (RYT; B.S. Education)
