Humboldt Bay Marathon

Humboldt County in northern California is a beautiful place with a very active local running community. The weather is ideal for a summer marathon with morning temperatures in the 50s that typically rise into the low to mid 60s by mid afternoon. The planned course is a grand tour of the highlights of Humboldt Bay. The course starts and ends in historic Old Town Eureka. The first two miles are relatively flat through pleasant residential streets and the charming local businesses of Henderson Center. In the third mile the course starts downhill until it crosses Martin Slough before climbing "Campton Hill". The course tours the quiet residential area of Cutten before leaving Eureka past the Redwood Acres Fairgrounds. The course takes the "Old Arcata Road" past the marshes on the east side of Humboldt Bay. Continue through Bayside into the center of Arcata in the 16th mile. From Arcata, we continue through the peaceful fields and dairy pastures of the "Arcata Bottoms" before turning south along the Samoa Peninsula. The last three miles are truly spectacular as we cross Humboldt Bay over three bridges before finishing on the waterfront in Old Town Eureka. The event will also include at least one and possibly TWO half-marathon races as well as a 5K or 10K race.
