Breeders Mary Ann Sward and Benjamin Cassell breed, raise, and train Norwegian Buhunds. Buhunds are a medium sized, active breed in the AKC Herding Group with great learning ability and prefer living with their human family. Buhunds require little grooming, enjoy the occasional bath, brushing a couple times a week, standard teeth care, and shortening their claws monthly. They are an excellent pet choice for an active family. Our foundation bitch, Ostara, was a great 4-H dog, working well in obedience, rally, and showmanship for Ben.
Our goal is to maintain the great characteristics of this breed through careful breeding, raising, training, and placement of our dogs. We screen our breeding animals for hip dysplasia and eye problems prior to breeding. We only breed litters when we have a waiting list for puppies, and not more than one litter per year. Puppies are whelped in our kitchen and raised in our home and yard. We do extensive socialization and preliminary housetraining with our puppies so they are ready to transition successfully to your pet or show home.
