Dr. Sandra Gosselin-Calhoun graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005 with High Honors. She then completed an 18 month internship at Equine Medical Center of Ocala and went on to work at Foil Equine, an equine sports medicine practice. In September of 2011, she started her own practice.

Hunters Trail Farm and Veterinary Services is a mobile equine practice. Dr. Gosselin-Calhoun is certified in animal chiropractic by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA) as well as equine acupuncture. She believes that combination medicine is the best treatment. Some ailments are best treated with western medicine as others are better with eastern medicine.

Dr. Gosselin-Calhoun does an acupuncture scan on just about every horse that she is called out for. These scans are done with no equipment but simply running a pen over acupuncture points and seeing where the horse reacts. The horse’s reaction depends on severity of pain/inflammation. Reactions range from a slight skin twitch to actual kicking out. Once the area of injury has been localized, a diagnostic and treatment plan can ensue.

Many horses don't appear lame but with a chiropractic adjustment their stride gets longer and their turns tighter. Chiropractic adjustments can relieve many "behavioral issues". A horse that doesn't like to be bridled can have a poll issue. A horse that favors a lead, won't swap leads, or cross canters may have lower back and/or hip issues. Horses that are normally well tempered and buck for what appears to be no reason may have a lower back that needs adjusting. Chiropractic adjustments may relieve many ailments but it is also great for preventive medicine. By using their body and traveling correctly they do not put undue stress on certain joints and ligaments, thereby preventing injury.
