The Hutchinson School of Tae Kwon Do Moo Duk Kwan was started in 2000 with a vision of offering alternative opportunities to at-risk kids by providing martial arts lessons free of charge. The goal was to help instill in children a sense of self-confidence and respect for others, especially family.
All of the instructors feel that martial arts is a gift that has been passed down from generation to generation and should continue to be passed on by each generation. Students learn life skills like courtesy, integrity, respect and self-control, in a controlled, family-oriented environment. Parents are encouraged to join their children in classes in order to foster this family atmosphere.
In 2008, the school became a non-profit organization and is governed by a seven-member board of directors. The school operates strictly through donations and fundraisers. The only fees that a student will pay are for belt promotion tests and for their tobak (uniform) should they choose to purchase one.
The instructors offer their knowledge and time as a gift to the community of Hutchinson, Kansas. They are not only instructors of the art of Tae Kwon Do Moo Duk Kwan- they are examples and mentors to children of all races, financial backgrounds and religions.
