More about Ian's Rest-The West Sewing Farm

Ian’s Rest

The West-Sewing Farm is dedicated to God, and his precepts. We are a family comprised of three generations committed to stewarding the land and animals God has entrusted to our care. We raise a variety of livestock and poultry, which live in an environment that is natural, this means sunshine and room to roam and graze. Our feed is GMO free, as well as hormone, steroid, antibiotic and soy free. No chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used on our farm.
On the farm you will find chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys. These supply us with eggs, meat, bug control, and pasture management. We have a dairy herd comprised of our Jersey cow and a mix of dairy goats. These supply us with an abundance of fresh milk daily, which becomes a wide variety of dairy products with a little elbow grease on our part. We also have homemade old fashioned milk soap, not the chemical aluminum ridden stuff you buy in the store. We raise Hogg Island sheep, which are an endangered heritage breed. These are the sheep closest to what was originally brought to the New World. These supply meat and wool for spinning. We have a herd of Beef cattle and usually some Holsteins steers that we bottle feed raw milk from our dairy herd.
We grow a wide range of produce fruit, vegetables and herbs all with organic and heritage seed. We use no chemical fertilizers or pesticides. We count on our bees to pollinate. Bees are a gift and blessing from God and we want to provide an environment that is safe and healthy for them. Healthy bees translate to healthy people. Bees are an indicator of the environment in which we live, and they are endangered due to GMO crops and chemical pesticides. We have to ask if the bees are ailing due to these factors, “What are the consequences to people?” in the long term.
During the growing season we have tomatoes, beets, green beans, peas, garlic, squash, kohlrabi, kale, lettuce and well you name it we are probably growing it. Strawberries and watermelons grow in abundance on our farm. Levi is pretty pleased with his Watermelon skills.
If you are interested in becoming a share member of the farm or you just want a dozen eggs, or a few bars of soap we are happy to meet your needs.
