More about Imperial Public Library

The Imperial Public Library was the brain child of Mrs. Hulene Dale, a Home Economics teacher of Buena Vista High School. In January of 1966, County Commissioner, Leslie Bowman and the Imperial Community Improvement Oraganization worked together to create the first library in a section of the Old Community Building on January 9, 1967 with help from the El Paso Public Library and local volunteers. The first librarian was Betty Jane Holladay, holding that position until 1973. Deneise Reid then held the Librarian position until 1975, followed by Hazel McRae through 1981, Nell Ivey through 1996, Maxie King through 2012, and Wanda Lewis to the present.
When Revenue Sharing funds were made available in May of 1974, the library moved to a new building where it currently resides.
