This 40 hour course will introduce the bicultural and bilingual individual to a description of the Limited English Proficient (LEP) Population, their distribution in the U.S., including barriers, challenges, and benefits of providing services to this group. The course covers:
The importance of providing Medical Interpreter Services
Regulatory mandates to establish Language Access Services
Roles of the Medical interpreter.
Modes of interpretation used in a healthcare setting
Managing the flow of communication
Memory development
Medical Interpreter Code of ethics
Cultural competency
Medical terminology
Interpreters Standards of Practice, Legislation and Regulation.
Upon completion of this course, the interpreter will be provided with the necessary knowledge and skills to be a qualified medical interpreter, and obtain the necessary knowledge to take and pass a Medical Interpreter Certification Exam.

Certificate of completion: Upon completion of the course and passing the final assessment students will receive a certificate of completion.
