Irie Yoga

I've always loved Dance! My first Yoga teacher was Swami Satchidananda in 1970 in NYC. He taught me to teach his style of yoga back then, Integral Yoga. I taught in Sausalito, California and Bolinas California with my husband Chitran. My name was Pushpa at the time, which means flower. We were married by guruji,had a child, Grace, and lived in Yogaville west in 1973. I raised kid's, teaching as we moved, from Santa Cruz to Hawaii, where Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga became my practice... back to Santa Cruz, where my second child, Glory, was born, to the San Francisco Bay area, to Mt. Shasta, California to Ashland Oregon... Grace couldn't pronounce 's' when she was young and called me 'Irie', so that's where the name came from. Come to realize, it is also an expression of joy and the experience of union with our spiritual nature.... one love.... perfect.

When my children graduated from living with me I had the opportunity to deepen my yoga studies... Ashtanga, Bikram, Anusara and Shiva Rae were major influences.... Being Eclectic, I've integrated aspects of all and it comes out as Irie!

Irie yoga has traveled from Ashland, Oregon, to St. Croix in the USVI, Thailand, Mexico, Costa Rica and Pueto Rico. Now I teach in Sebastopol at Thrive Yoga, a wonderful Hot Vinyasa studio and at Om Wellness and Ayurveda. I love my life.
