More about Irlen Screening of Buffalo

My name is Rebecca Myslinski, and I am an Irlen Screener, School Psychologist and a mother of three children who all have been diagnosed with Irlen Syndrome. Our journey and our passion of raising Irlen Awareness started when my 10-year-old son underwent an Irlen Screening and was diagnosed with Irlen Syndrome. We quickly learned how the science of color could transform our lives. We were blessed that someone reached out to us, and it has made a world of difference for our family.

My son is a 4th grader and has struggled in school since the beginning. He has had difficulty in his overall reading ability, difficulty in the areas of visual-motor coordination and how they apply to paper pencil tasks and his ability to attend to a task for more than a few minutes. Watching him struggle has been heart wrenching. Like most, if not all parents, I wanted my son to experience success and enjoy learning. I wanted him to use reading as a learning tool. But reading, especially for more than a few minutes seemed out of reach. I wanted him to enjoy reading, but his progress seemed bleak in respect to reading improvement.

Ever since he first underwent the Irlen Screening and was introduced to the Irlen Method, he has made great strides in his reading fluency, reading duration, handwriting and attention/concentration. It used to be difficult for him to read for 20 minutes each evening for homework. Now, my son enjoys reading and is making progress. It is such a relief to watch him do his homework each night without fatigue.

It has become my passion to introduce the Irlen Method to the Western New York area. As a parent and educator, my mission is to provide this knowledge to assist children and adults experiencing visual perceptual processing difficulties. The answer is not always black and white, sometimes the answer is COLOR.
