Ironbound Hard Cider

Our first cider, proudly crafted by Jersey Cider Works, has a bold, fresh flavor because, unlike the big cider brands, Ironbound is made from 100% American apples from Mid-Atlantic and New England orchards —the birthplace of many of America’s most beloved apple varieties.

Instead of ordering apple concentrate from weird foreign industrial auction sites, we’ve spent a lot of time finding small-scale orchards because it makes for far more flavorful cider, and allows us to spend our money on useful things like strengthening our regional economy and keeping American farmland from being taken over by McMansions. And, instead of being on the other side of the planet, our suppliers are just a short drive away.

With the launch of Ironbound, not only are we supporting our local farmers, creating well-paying jobs, and making damn good cider, we’re taking it back to Newark, where the most celebrated cider was in the country! Yes, Newark! Not Boston.

George Washington called Newark cider “the champagne of ciders” The key ingredient to Newark Cider was the famed Harrison apple and after much investigation, we discovered the rich heritage these apple trees had and what a long, yet successful process it was (and still is) to bring them back to their birthplace of New Jersey.

By developing partnerships with neighboring farms, we hope to reestablish the Harrison’s place in history and allow Newark to take true ownership of this symbolic apple.
