Jamaica Plain Pavement Junkies

The JP Pavement Junkies is an eclectic morning running group. We were going to call ourselves the Green / Rockview Running Group, but then thought, what kind of stupid name is that? After conducting extensive market research, focus groups and Internet polling, we settled on The JP Pavement Junkies. That's us. We're junkies. When we run, we're a fun, light-hearted, merry little band. When we don't, we're a bunch of assholes. Ergo, we try to run a lot.

JPPJ meets almost every weekday on the corner of Green St. and Rockview St. - mid-way between the Green Street T stop and Centre St. We usually meet at 6AM sharp. Except when someone has an early meeting, or kid issues or an angry spouse. Then we push it up to 5:45 or even, once in a while, 5:30. 5:30 is the limit. Anyone that would run before then is a lunatic. We may run in sub-zero temperatures, hung-over, in complete darkness, but we're not lunatics.

Our weekday routes range from 4 to 8 miles. We have one member who's one of those nauseating young 'uns who runs races to win. As in, come in first. And sometimes does. The rest of us are solidly middle-of-the-pack. We usually ease into about an 8:30 pace. Sometimes a little quicker or slower depending on who's there. Some of us show up almost every day. Some make cameo appearances once a week or once a month. No rules. No judgment. No membership requirements. Except if you're a dick. No dicks.

Lastly, and most importantly, we have custom JPPJ beer koozies. You heard it right - Custom. Beer. Koozies. Does your running group have custom beer koozies? Does it? We didn't think so. We're not trying to actively grow the group, but if you show up you might possibly get a custom beer koozie. Just sayin'.
