Jealous Jade Rattery

My name is Lacia and I love rats! I have 14 years experience in handling and raising pet rats. I am a member of the American Fancy Rat & Mouse Association. I breed to improve on the species and have reasonable knowledge in rat health, behavior, and genetics. I sometimes do rescue work, but for the most part I breed rats for pets. I am set apart from most "feeder breeders" and "basement/backyard breeders" in that I give my rats great lives and I have good breeding practices. I select the best of my pups for pets and screen potential homes for each of them.

My rats are handled from the beginning and I provide my rats with top quality food, bedding, and housing. My rats live in huge cages with hideouts, hangouts, toys, chews, and soft beds. I often treat them with fresh veggies and my rats are treated for parasites about every 12 weeks to ensure they are not an issue in my colony. I always guarantee my animals and if you find you cannot keep any or all rats adopted from my rattery, you may return them to me and I will rehome them. :) When adopting from me, you will always have the option of asking me for rat-related advice, and I can set you up with good resources with valuable rat related information.

I am a small, home-based rattery, and most of the funding behind my rattery comes from my pockets, the adoption fees do not cover all the expensive costs of running my rattery, so therefore I make no actual profit. I breed and raise rats because it is my hobby. I try to provide my surrounding communities with quality rats, raised with love like all animals deserve.

I record all known and discovered information on my individual rats and litters. I also have a system in my rattery that allows me to be organized and keep track of my animals. I have Status Lists to know who has what purpose at which times, an aggression level system, a point judging system, I have a rotation system and a calendar method for things like parasite prevention, cage rotation, bathing, and other simple things like a health and temperament reviews. My rattery would be a mess if I didn't develop these things! LOL.

My aim is to produce wonderful quality rats for my local community and help put an end to breeding mills and backyard/basement breeders, while encouraging a more ethical alternative to feeding rodents to other animals. In everything I do, I mean well for the domestic rat population, no matter how cut-throat and judgemental the rat community gets.

Someday, I hope things settle in the rat community and people work more together to do what is "best" for the domestic rat population.
