More about Jennie Mazza Jones, LCSW

Who I am:
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in Child Centered Play Therapy.

What I do:
I help kids who long to feel accepted, want to do well, and wish they could control their worries, anger, and behaviors, but struggle because they communicate in a way that many adults don’t understand.

I also help parents/caregivers who want to help the important children in their lives reach their truest potential, but are afraid to make the wrong move, fear the worst, or are just unsure of what to do next.

I do this by meeting with parents/caregivers to start to figure out what is occurring with their child. I continue by supporting kids in navigating their struggles through Play Therapy so they can begin to learn to relate differently to themselves and the world around them. And so they can begin to show the parts of themselves that the adults who love them know is hiding underneath the fear, worry and disrespect.

Why?
I know from my extensive post graduate training in child development and play therapy, and from the privilege I have been given to work with many amazing children, that kids are hard to figure out and that they often feel misunderstood by the adults in their lives.

Kids know I see their strengths and embrace their imperfection as part of what makes them unique. They know I like them for who they are and will not try to change them. After all, change is longer lasting when people are able to find the motivation from within.

Parents and children who work with me appreciate my honesty, even when it might be tough or hard to swallow because they trust that I have their best interest at the forefront of my work with them.

As a newer parent, I understand what it’s like to feel overwhelmed and question whether or not I am making the right decisions. I hold deep respect for parents and caregivers; those who are just starting out and those who are veterans of the game.

That’s why my work is deeply rooted in the belief that parents and caregivers are the experts on their children and I am committed to being a partner in the collaborative journey to helping children and families find healing and success.

Here’s what I want to say to you:

Parents/Caregivers:
It isn’t easy to seek help. You may feel unsure of how to meet your child’s needs but you are not alone. Many people struggle. You are brave for reaching out. We will work together to meet the unique needs of your child.
I’m a new parent, treading in new territory, I know what it’s like to be overwhelmed and not know what to do. I know what it’s like to be afraid to ask for help.

Kids:
Its safe here.
I listen.
Sometimes life is hard and it’s ok to ask for help. I have a safe space where you can work out your problems in a way that comes naturally to you.

Everyone:
I don’t focus on pathology and diagnoses. I focus on strengths and potential. A diagnosis can offer insight, and I do consider it, but I know that there is more to someone than a label. Therefore, the type of therapy I provide focuses on the whole person.

If you have questions or are interested in embarking with your child on the therapy journey check out my website at www.jenniemazzajones.com and contact me today.
If you are under 18 years of age, I need to talk to your parents first. Have them give me a call at 315-737-3094.
