More about Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home

In 1930, Jernigan Funeral Home was founded in Dunn, North Carolina by the late Joe Jernigan and his wife, Flossie Jernigan. In 1932, the Jernigans moved the location of the Funeral Home to the 500 block of Hay St. in Fayetteville. From there, the business moved to 206 Gillespie St, where it stayed until the present location was established on Ramsey St. in 1958. In the early 1970’s, the building was renovated and the larger visitation rooms and offices in the rear of the building were added.

In 1946, Charles Warren, nephew to Joe and Flossie Jernigan, purchased a one-third interest in the business, and in 1952, upon the retirement of Joe Jernigan, bought half ownership along with Flossie Jernigan. In 1989, when Mrs. Jernigan passed away, Charles Warren became sole owner of the business. In 1991, Harold Warren, younger brother of Charles, came to work in the family business after retiring from the Cumberland County School System. In 2009, Charles “Ben” Chambers, grandson to Charles and Lucille Warren, began working full time in the Funeral Home, keeping the family tradition going.

In 1963, Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home was invited to join National Selected Morticians (now Selected Independent Funeral Homes). Members of this association operate under strict standards and strive to utilize best practices in serving families and individuals during their times of need. Guided by the Code of Good Practice and the benefit of shared knowledge, Selected members are professionals of the highest standards, providing families with confidence and trusted information. Member firms are operated by trusted, local professionals, often from funeral-service families who have been helping people for multiple generations

Charles Warren passed away on December 9, 2010, at the age of 93. Currently, his wife Lucille Warren is sole owner. Her dedicated staff of funeral professionals have over 165 years of accumulated experience. We pride ourselves on serving each family with care and compassion during their time of loss; and we are dedicated to continuing to serve this great community as we have done for more than 80 years.
