More about Jingling Spur

How Jingling Spur Aprons came about:

I was looking for a cutesy western apron for my kitchen in about 2008-2009 and could not find what I wanted so I began to sketch out some ideas. The heart shaped top seemed like an obvious place to start for me because I am a lover of hearts. Since I was a little girl my Dad always bought me heart shaped jewelry and when my husband asked me to marry him he asked with a heart shaped diamond.

At the time that I drew the aprons up I did not sew so I held onto my design for a while before I got the courage up to try to make one. I asked my Mother-In-Law to give me some tips and teach me how to make ruffles and the first apron I made came out really well. I posted a picture online and people loved it.

I've been making them ever since and improving them along the way. The first Jingling Spur Aprons were made in 2010. They have been seen on Miranda Lambert, in Cowgirls In Style Magazine, and in countless gal's kitchens across the USA and Canada.

It was important for me to include God in all of my work so since the very beginning I have prayed over each apron and then hand written a random Bible verse on the back of each one. I hope that God will use my craft as a subtle reminder to all who wear my aprons that He is the most important in our lives. God is good!

I hope that you will make wonderful memories in your kitchens and pass the aprons down from generation to generation. I also love to see pics of y'all wearing them.

Blessings, Tracie ♥

~Grandma's Apron~

I don't think our kids know what an apron is. The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath, because she only had a few, it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and they used less material, but along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven. It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears… From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven. When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids. And when the weather was cold grandma wrapped it around her arms. Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove. Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron. From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls. In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees. When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds. When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men-folk knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner. It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes.

REMEMBER:

Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw. They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron. I never caught anything from an apron…But Love.
