What exactly is a doula, and what does she do?
A doula is a professional, trained birth support person.
"Doula" is ancient Greek for "woman who serves", and that's exactly what she does: serves her mothers-to-be during pregnancy, labor and birth, as well as post-partum.

As your doula, I will visit with you before the birth to go over your birth plan, learn about comfort measures, and make sure you are feeling confident and informed.
During your labor and birth I am there to assist in any way needed - whether that's being right there with you through the contractions, or doing all the background tasks to that your husband/birth partner has the space to concentrate on only you.
Once you've delivered I visit with you post-partum and make sure you are adjusting well to motherhood, and help with breastfeeding, if you choose to do so.

I am also a licensed massage therapist, and, if you desire it, will help you with natural pain relief through massage during your labor.
