Welcome to Juana la Cubana at GP Saturday Growers Market! We started this venture accidentally! Every Christmas or special day, we gave my Abuela Juana's rum cakes as gifts. When our oldest son was in the 8th grade, he qualified to compete in Washington, DC in a national spelling bee. To help raise funds we decided to sell rum cakes. We actually raised over $500! It was then that we realized that we had the makings of a business. Fast forward a few years, and a friend of ours asked if we would be willing to cater his event with our cake and some of our Cuban food. Because friends who tried our food had always said we should open a restaurant, we agreed to give it a try. From then we were hooked! Every chance we had we offered to cook or cater. Finally our big chance came in 2014 and we were one of 65 vendors selected to sell food at our local Growers Market. We decided to use only local, healthy ingredients, using organic, GMO and gluten-free products whenever possible. Even the spices we use to make our food are organic. What has surprised most people is that our food isn't spicy, but rather how savory it is. We were at the Growers Market for only 6 weeks the first year of operation, but it was just enough to give us what we needed to take this idea to the next level. Although, we deeply enjoy sharing my grandmothers' recipes, the thought of a brick-and-mortar location doesn't interest us at this time. What does interest us, is the thought of bottling the "magic" that makes our meals so special, so that way anyone can make authentic Cuban food whenever they want to. We hope to have them for sale by July at the latest. So stop on by and give us a try, and if you are working on Saturdays, give us a call because we can deliver!
