More about Juline School Of Dance

Begun in 1974 by the late Juline Frowein Schmitz, the primary goal of Juline School of Dance is to give every child and adult a positive feeling about himself or herself while offering the highest quality of training possible. Our expertly trained faculty is dedicated to the building of self-esteem and the feeling of self-worth in each student along with a knowledge, an appreciation, and a genuine and lasting love for the art of dance.

CURRICULUM
Ballet is the most universal of all dance forms. Through its disciplined concentration on proper body alignment and placement in addition to sound symmetrical muscular development, it provides the foundation and background upon which all other forms of dance are built.

Creative Dance: This music and movement program is specifically designed for the young child ages 3 to 4 years of age. Children learn fun dances while developing rhythm, coordination and muscular awareness.

Pre-Ballet: is offered for all students ages 4 and 5. Pre-Ballet introduces the young child to the world of dance and music in an information manner through movement exploration and serves as a preparation for further study. Classes are designed to develop creativity, rhythm, coordination, grace, and self-confidence as well as physical fitness.

Elementary Ballet (Levels 1-4): Children ranging in age from 6 to 8 begin the Level 1 syllabus. Highly technical ballet training should not begin until a child has reached the age of 8 for both physical and psychological reasons. This is normally begun in Level 3. Children generally progress through these levels according to their own abilities. Tap is included for a 10 minute period at the conclusion of each dance class at the Advanced Pre-Ballet and Elementary levels. Tap is an excellent “rhythm teacher,” providing a chance for quick visible progress, and is great fun.

Intermediate Ballet: is offered for those students who have completed the prerequisite curriculum. Students at these levels attend class twice a week for 90 minutes each. Pre-pointe and Pointe work is begun in these classes with proper strength and placement.

Advanced Ballet: is for the advanced level student who wishes to enroll in a minimum of two 90 minute classes per week. The advanced curriculum includes comprehensive technique study, pointe work and master classes.

Pre-Professional Training Division: is a unique program offered by Juline School of Dance for dancers who show exceptional desire, talent, and ability in dance. Classes are held daily, with 4-6 classes per week, mandatory. Many dancers who train in the Pre-Professional Training Division aspire to be members of The Juline Regional Youth Ballet and to continue with careers in dance. Dancers are accepted into the Professional Training Division by invitation only after evaluation by their instructors and the division director.

Jazz / Hip Hop: Students enrolling in Jazz or Hip Hop classes must be at least 10 years of age through adult. A variety of styles are explored. Students currently enrolled in a ballet class, level 3 or higher, may add Jazz at the age of 8.

Modern Dance: Modern Dance explores the freedom and expressive power of movement and helps to inspire artistic self-expression. Students must be 10 years of age through adult. Age 8 if currently enrolled in a Ballet class.

Tap: Separate Tap classes are available to students 8 years of age through adult. Students explore all basic rhythms, time steps, turns, across-the-floor movement, and challenging combinations at pro-aggressive levels.

Juline Regional Youth Ballet: JRYB funded by the Juline Foundation for Children was founded in 2008 to give young serious dances an opportunity for more performance experience. Auditions are held annually for students of intermediate to advanced levels of ballet, ages 11-16. Under the direction of David Acre.
