More about Jumak House Of Care Foundation

About Us
In Nigeria, women suffer at point of delivery which sometimes leads to loss of life of both the mother and the unborn child. Some of the reasons behind this are: the three phases of delays; delay at home- Poverty, cultural, religious beliefs. Delay in accessing healthcare facilities- financial constraints and transportation. Delay at the health care facilities; payment for proper medical treatment, and poverty.
Most hospitals require payment first before they attend to women in labor. Most privately owned hospitals will not take the patient without money being deposited. In some cases, if it is the government owned hospitals, they might take the patient, but won’t discharge the patient until the bills are fully paid.
Our goal is to pay the bill in full and help families that are in this category. Part of our goal is to provide financial support to families with children and elderly going through financial difficulties throughout Nigeria.
How We Work
Jumak House of Care Foundation is an operating foundation with its headquarters in the Severn Maryland, USA but provide helping hand to Nigerian population in the poorest communities. The money raised by the Foundation is spent directly on our programs only. The majority of the Jumak House of Care Foundation’s charitable work is performed and implemented by our staff and medical team on the ground. We will operate programs in all States within Nigeria with Women and families in the poorest community.
WHY WE DO IT:
Poverty Alleviation
In several rural areas in Nigeria, 80% of population lives up to below poverty line. The social services and infrastructure are limited or not available. Most of the elderly men and women in the rural communities depend on agriculture for food and income.
About 90 per cent of Nigeria’s food is produced by small-scale farmers who cultivate small plots of land and depend on rainfall rather than irrigation systems. The government support on large scale farm is low or not available and makes living extremely difficult for rural family. Our outreach programs will help provide foods and financial support as needed.
Health literacy
Some of the villages in rural area have access to health centers, but not well equipped or with no staff availabilities. Our goal is to encourage and educate people in those communities on the importance of maintaining good health and reassure them our support with medical bills when seeking treatment in the urban communities. Sometimes, due to lack of health education most pregnant women use orthodox methods or they simply stay home throughout pregnancy which eventually leads to lack of adequate medical treatment that will potentially lead to maternal and child morbidity/ mortality.
Our goal is to continue to educate people in the rural communities on the importance of medical treatment, ante-natal and postpartum care after delivery. Through partnership with hospitals, we hope that we can encourage immunization and provide medical treatment for vulnerable adult, family and children.
Lack of Affordable Health Care
Most pregnant women in the rural communities are either afraid of the financial constraint or have no access to well equipped medical hospital. This increases both maternal and child mortality rates. Furthermore, people who live in the urban communities of Nigeria with well equipped hospital are unable to afford the cost mainly because of deteriorating economy.
As much as we focus on shortcomings of the patients, it is important to highlight the sad reality that some doctors are either incompetent or work for facilities that are not well equipped. We will connect patient with hospital that are capable of providing quality medical treatment. Our number one goal is to educate and encouraged pregnant women and their children to seek medical treatment rather that local treatment or regimen.
Outreach Process
We aim to serve different villages in the rural communities across Nigeria. We provide financial assistance, food supply and health education to our vulnerable elderly and families with children
