Enjoy paddling your kayak in the Channel Islands Marine Park - one of the world's most productive Humpback Whale and Stellar Sea Lion areas!

Departing from your Juneau cruise piers downtown, you and your small group of adventurers will transfer 45 minutes north of town to the kayak shop at Auke Bay. You will receive your gear before taking a 30 minute motor boat to the Channel Islands. Reaching the camp location, you will find the kayaks awaiting you. The guides will assist everyone with gearing up and adjusting the kayaks for a proper fit. A safety briefing and paddling instructions will make sure everyone is comfortable. Although previous kayaking experience is needed, please see the restrictions tab.

You will push off from the beach and begin approximately two hours of paddling and exploring. While paddling along the coast, you may see humpback whales in the distance, steller sea lions, harbor seals, or Dall's or harbor porpoise. Do not forget to scan the banks and trees where you may catch a glimpse of eagles, other marine birds, deer, sea otters along the shore and the occasional bear. Although wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, the further from town you travel, the stronger the possibility and sightings are common in this protected area. The guides will be with you the entire way, leading the group and helping to keep the group together. They will also point out sights along the route.

You will also have the opportunity to take in the incredible scenery that is Southeast Alaska. As you paddle across serene waters, in and out of inlets, you will have panoramic views of glaciers in the distance and the majestic, peaks and valleys of the Chilkat and Coast Mountain Ranges. A waterproof disposable camera would be good to capture the memories!

In rain or sunshine, the scenery is overwhelming and the opportunity to explore the rain forest environment in a small exclusive group from your own kayak is a unique experience. Returning to the beach, there will be time for beach combing or a short hike through the inter-tidal area. Enjoy a light snack while waiting for the water taxi to pick you up and take you back to Auke Bay where you will meet your transportation back to downtown Juneau and your cruise ship pier.
