More about Justice and Peace in Palestine Alliance

The Justice and Peace in Palestine Alliance at the University at Albany was formed in 2009 when a group of students came together to stand up to injustice. Sean Ewart, Meryem Ay, Merve Ay, and Fadi Kanaan met together in the fall of 2009 to discuss plans for a one-off event aimed at showing American students the impact of America on the injustices in Palestine. This event, which took place 11/18/2009, was such a success that JAPPA was officially formed in spring 2010 and went on to win the Outstanding Political Group of the year award at UAlbany for 2010.

JAPPA has continued to grow and represent the cause of Palestine both on campus, in the community, and nationally through partnerships with other university groups, peace activists, and international human rights organizations. Today we encompass members from many backgrounds and political slants who are all dedicated to the cause of Justice and Peace in Palestine. We take pride in our short but powerful history of political and social engagement and look forward to expanding our work until there is peace. This is about Palestine specifically, but as Martin Luther King Jr. said, "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere;" this struggle involves us all.
