More about Kangatraining with Jacole & Growing Up Green

LET'S KANGA WITH JACOLE AND GET FIT TOGETHER!

Brand new in the USA imported from Europe.

After giving birth have you ever asked the question: "How can I achieve a quality workout AND have my baby with me?" Well, now you can. Kangatraining is a structured safe and effective exercise program for Moms and their babies. The focus in this fun interval training is on the Mom while she is still able to bond with her baby.

YOUR BEST WORKOUT • TOGETHER

Kangatraining is a complete workout during which both cardiovascular endurance/flexibility and muscular capacity/strength are enhanced. Unlike traditional exercise classes, Moms need not worry about finding a babysitter or minding an unsettled baby during class because the babies are worn on them and get to be part of the action! As well as the physical benefits, the opportunity to meet other local Moms in a fun, relaxed environment boosts their emotional wellbeing.

The pelvic floor and abdominal muscles as well as correct posture are given special attention. I am a babywearing educator trained at the Babywearing Institute Northwest in Vancouver, Washington, and can help Moms ensure the safest and most comfortable carrying positions for their babies.

As a Mom of a young child myself, I understand that embarking on a post-baby fitness program can be daunting. I am a fully certified Kangatraining Instructor, having completed a training course in Alexandria, Virginia. I'm CPR/first aid certified, and have passed exams in anatomy, postnatal health, and babywearing safety. My background is in Elementary and early Childhood education and I have spent over 15 years in the education field.

You can begin Kangatraining once you have been given the “all clear” from your health professional to resume exercising postpartum. This can be anywhere from 6-10 weeks or slightly longer following a caesarean section. I will ask you to complete a health questionnaire to highlight any concerns so we can modify the exercises in the workout for you.

Babywearing Safety

Without a doubt, safety is the number one consideration when using a baby carrier. Many popular carriers, although not posing an immediate threat, are not optimally designed to support the natural development of baby’s hips and spine. Babies should be worn in a carrier that ensures that their legs are supported from knee to knee in an “M” position and facing inward towards the wearer.

What type of baby carriers are suitable for Kangatraining class?
•Carriers must support a baby in their natural spread squat position with the legs supported from the base of one knee to the base of the other. Proper head and neck support is essential. No forward facing carriers allowed. All carriers need to provide mom with support for both of her shoulder and across her waist.
•For smaller babies who can not yet sit up, they need extra support for their rounded backs. Wraps (woven or cotton~for babies under 3 months), meitais, and SSC’s with the infant insert pillow (no full inserts due to risk of overheating.)
•Once a baby can sit up, a SSC, woven wrap, or mei tai works well. Heavier babies who can sit unsupported can be worn on mom’s back.

You are welcome to bring your carrier so I can assess its suitability for the class. I will also assist you in getting the best fit and comfort for you and your baby. There will be demo carriers available at each class to try out and I will soon begin renting on an ongoing basis.

INFO TO KNOW BEFORE YOUR FIRST CLASS:

Wear comfortable exercise clothes, socks and shoes (or barefoot- especially in the beginning.)

Bring extra onesie for baby, diapers/wipes, yoga mat, towel, water bottle!

We offer training adjustments/ modifications for the various forms of pain or injuries common after a birth with complications or from everyday life after pregnancy, so be sure to inform trainer of concerns on your health questionnaire.

Breastfeeding mothers experiencing mastitis are not allowed to participate in kangatraining. Breastfeed before session to relieve pressure and weight.

There is really no age limit for babies so long as every mother participating can wear their baby safely and comfortably. For restless older babies, or moms who have a baby and a toddler, the kids are welcome to play on the floor in the room.
