Mission: The mission of Kate Shepard Elementary is to educ">Kate Shepard Elementary opened in 1954 and is named in honor of Miss Kate Shepard, a former school teacher. It was named after her as a salute to the progress of education and to the youth of Mobile.
During the first two years, the school housed both elementary and junior high students. In 1956, the school became an elementary school.
The current facility opened in 2004.
Principal Kay Smith and Assistant Principal Courtney Diaz and about 40 teachers lead instruction at Kate Shepard.
