The Kelley House Museum is a non-profit that was organized in 1973 by Dorothy Bear and Beth Stebbins to collect, preserve and share the history of the Mendocino Coast. In 1975, the house and property were donated to the organization by Robert O. Petersen, then owner of the Mendocino Hotel.
In 1993, an environmentally controlled subterranean vault was constructed with an existing structure. This vault allows the Museum to safely store the many artifacts and photographs donated by pioneer Mendocino families.
