The Kentucky Seed Society was formed as an extension of an educational project, started in Knox County, Kentucky. The project, based at Knox Central High School, revolves around the importance of seed saving, traditional agriculture, and learning to be self-sufficient in all aspects of life. The Society is accompanied by courses, which help to teach students about Appalachian Culture, Botanical History, & Conservation through hands-on Gardening, Building, Growing, Harvesting, & the Preservation of Heirloom Plants. With the hands-on approach of the Society, the creation of the First & Only High School ran Seed Bank in the state of Kentucky (located at Knox Central High School, Barbourville Ky.), is now a wonderfully fulfilled reality.
