In 1873 lumberman James and Mary Brayton built a cottage here which they named after their family friend, Chief Khardomah, leader of one of the 19 historical Grand River Bands of Odawa peoples. Khardomah means "Happy Home" in Anishinaabemowin, an Algonquian language, which is currently designated as "critically endangered" by UNESCO.
The Khardomah Lodge is a 4 story historical lodge nestled in the dunes in Grand Haven, Michigan near Lake Michigan. Initially built in the 19th century and expanded in the years since the lodge has 14 main lodge bedrooms, 5 full and 2 1/2 half shared baths, and 4 private suites. We provide ample common areas including a large great room, dining room that seats 42 people and full kitchen for guests to enjoy.
