Who We Are and What Our Mission Is

KHK Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization based in the United States of America. We are designated as a 501(c) (3) tax exempt organization, which is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. KHK works in collaboration with other organizations and with community leaders to accomplish KHK's mission, vision, and objectives.

Our mission is to help other people.

Specifically, KHK means Khmer Helping Khmer. We are primarily an organization focused toward facilitation of more prosperous persons of Khmer heritage helping Khmer people who lack such basic needs as clean water. Even so, we also endeavor to help anyone else who is in a similar plight, just as we accept benevolent assistance from anyone in accomplishing our goals.

Our first priority being Khmer Helping Khmer is based on the idea that we as a people of a long and illustrious heritage in a beautiful and bountiful land must come together worldwide to make ourselves as a people vibrantly healthy and free from the scourges that extreme privation foments. In this way we can prosper and contribute to the elimination of such hardship everywhere, just as the physician is adjured to heal himself, that he may better heal others. In this sense, every person can be Khmer, regardless of any biological provenance.

In the past year or so, we have built 17 wells in rural villages to provide fresh clean water. People from those villages formerly had to walk for miles over rough terrain just to get as much water as they could carry back, and most of even that available water was scarce and not reliably non-contaminated.

Our longer term goals include building irrigation systems and forming partnerships with other organizations for such necessities as decontamination of arable land, drastic reduction in various debilitating tropical diseases, such as cholera from unclean water, and malaria from the vast numbers of mosquitoes that breed profusely in standing water.

We are also involved in providing education in rural areas, with the eventual goal of building publicly and privately funded schools in those areas. For decades now, only a small fraction of the resources allocated for relief in remote areas has actually reached those areas. We seek to facilitate greater effectuality for the application of some of the formidable resources that are presently available.

We seek to facilitate the accomplishment of our goals by hard work, efficient use of privately contributed and government allocated funds, and careful balancing in the modern world of the benefits of innovation with the centuries-old sustainability of traditional Khmer ways of life.
