Kickin' Brass, LLC

Hi, I am Jimmy Callender, owner/operator of Kickin’ Brass LLC. I was introduced to firearms around the approximate age of 7 hunting deer and squirrels with my father and my uncle. From there, the passion continued to grow from plinking cans and gumballs out of a gum tree with my bb gun, to shooting all sorts of things with a .22 caliber rifle as a teenager, to becoming the avid sportsman I am today. At the age of 18, after graduating high school, I joined the ranks of the U.S. Army where I served as a Combat Engineer (12B) for 4 years. There I learned tons of valuable life skills and firearms know-how. During this time I was given the opportunity to qualify with or at least shoot 90% of the small arms weapons the U.S. Army used at that time. After getting out of the Army in 1997, I went to college. While working at my first job after college, I met a gentleman who I became very close friends with. In 2008, he introduced me to competitive combat pistol shooting, also known as IPSC or, in the United States, USPSA. This sport grew on me like wildfire being that I am a highly competitive person and I love to shoot. Since 2008, I have won several awards at various state matches and many local matches. Although I may not be the top dog, I can usually shoot with the best of them. This sport made me realize my current passion of teaching beginning shooters all about the safety and fundamentals of the sport of handgun shooting. In March 2010, I became a Certified NROI Range Safety Officer and in August 2013, I became a Certified NRA Pistol Instructor. My goal is to train beginner enthusiasts the joy of shooting pistols safely and accurately.
