Chronology of Kingdom Place Ministries

Pastor Marcus L. Dunn

“Where we came from and where we’re going”

In 2002, an outreach ministry began at a local community center ( Carver Community Center) for the purpose of reaching out to the youth in the Anniston community. The desire of the people to hear the Word of God became so strong, that the Sunday meetings that were being held once a month increased to weekly Wednesday night Bible studies. As the months went by, the Wednesday night Bible studies became increasingly popular among the community. People began to open up about themselves, about their families, and they began to learn that through God’s Word, things can and will change.

Pastor Marcus Dunn saw the hunger in the people, and began to incorporate a Sunday service in August of that same year. Pastor Dunn began to seek God for a name to give our outreach ministry. His wife, Co-Founder, Pamela Dunn, remembered Pastor Dunn bringing forth the vision that God had given to him for the ministry. He said, “We will be a place for all to come and hear the Word of God. Not a specific race, background, or tradition, but a place for all of God’s children.” God gave Pastor Dunn the name, “Kingdom Place Ministries” in September of 2003, as the official name of the ministry. Pastor Marcus Dunn Sr. was ordained as a pastor in October 2003.

As Kingdom Place Ministries began to prosper and flourish under Pastor Dunn’s leading, Pastor Dunn and his wife(Pam) began to search for a new place for Kingdom Place Ministries to continue the work that God had for them to do. After months of searching, Pastor Dunn received the favor of God at 501 Quintard Avenue. It would be here, that Kingdom Place Ministries would call home. Our first service was held on January 31, 2004. And it was here, where we would see the vision God gave our pastor, come to pass.

The vision I am speaking of comes from Luke 4:18, which is “to empower the people of God, with the Word of God. To minister to the poor, and the sick, and to free those who are in bondage to sin. To bring sight to those who are blind, and to set at liberty, those who are bruised, and to ensure that the expansion of the building, will never outgrow the growth of God’s people who are in the building.” KPM continued to grow at 501 Quintard and it was here, that our first Praise Team was formed and we established our Administration and Hospitality Departments. Our Youth Ministry was developed, and our developing leaders were ordained. Most importantly, many lives were touched and changed and ministry was birthed and brought forth in many lives. KPM called 501 Quintard home from January 2004 until May of 2006.

In May 2006, KPM moved to 600 Wilmer Avenue. While at this location, our ministry continued to reach new dimensions in Christ Jesus. KPM reached out to our community through many different and exciting ministries. We fed the homeless, served spiritual (the Word) and natural food, compiled a food pantry, had a clothes giveaway, gave away Christmas boxes, and hosted a Kingdom Fest, just to name a few events, all while continuing to remain “A Church of Love and Truth”.

The future of Kingdom Place Ministries remained bright and exciting. In 2007, a large commercial property in the community of Lenlock, 5804 Weaver Road, was donated to the church for the furtherance of the Gospel, and of Kingdom Place Ministries. As the plans unfolded, the renovations began to take place slowly but surely.

In January 2008, God moved KPM temporarily moved back to Carver Community Center until the renovation of our new home was completed…This was our safe and hiding place. Carver Community Center was “The Cave” as Pastor called it… our temporary home before the big come out. Pastor knew God was taking us to another dimension and that we needed to be quiet as we listened and received the instructions God had for us at KPM.

We remained at Carver Community from January 2008 until September 2010. In September 2010, the big move to our permanent location in Lenlock began. Our first official service in the new building took place on October 3rd, 2010.

5804 Weaver Road has become the new home for Kingdom Place Ministries and will continue to serve the city of Anniston and its surrounding areas, for many, many years to come. We believe that KPM is planted here for a great work in Calhoun County.
