KIPP STAR is part of KIPP NYC, a network of 10 public charter schools serving 4,451 students and alumni across NYC and our KIPP Through College Program.
• Academics: The road to college begins well before high school graduation. We provide students a rigorous college-preparatory program based on Common Core standards and best practices from KIPP schools across the country.
• End of Year Trip: All KIPP NYC middle schools students have the
opportunity to earn an end-of-year field trip to destinations like
Washington, D.C., upstate New York, and Florida. KIPP STAR’s 7th grade team has created a unique experience for students to tour the South, visiting major historical sites connected to the Civil Rights Movement.
• Advisory: We offer advisory programs that give students a supportive space to work out academic and personal issues with peers and school leaders. Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of programs including Brothers Seeking Knowledge, our boys mentoring group or Sister to Sister and Mariposa, our two girls mentoring programs.
• Arts Program: KIPP STAR students participate in a multi-disciplinary arts program including Afro-Caribbean drumming, martial arts, step, theater, visual arts and dance. Every year, KIPP STAR students produce two cultural celebrations: Sabrosura, a Latino heritage celebration and the Black History Month show that honors the culture of our students.
