Situated in Mobile’s historic and quaint Oakleigh Garden District at 351A George St., Kitchen on George has made a name for itself the last four years and has been honored with numerous awards, hosted events for the community, is ranked the No. 1 restaurant in Mobile on TripAdvisor.com and was recently named to the “13 Alabama Restaurants You Must Try Before You Die” list.

The restaurant’s commitment to locally sourced and seasonally inspired cuisine has proven popular among its diners. Buying from local producers whenever possible, the Farm to Table strategy allows chefs to offer fresh, bright flavors of the region while providing the healthiest and highest-quality food at an affordable price.

In its first four years, Kitchen on George, has hosted many events for the community and has worked to provide a place for local Culinard students and graduates to gain real-world experience while giving Mobile residents an upscale yet affordable, fine-dining experience.

Kitchen on George won first place in six categories and second place in three categories of Lagniappe Magazine’s 2014 Nappie Awards, which annually recognize excellence in Mobile’s entertainment areas. The "Best Chef" honor was awarded in 2015 and 2016 and the restaurant was voted “Best New Restaurant” in the fine dining category of the awards in 2012 during Kitchen on George’s debut year.

It was during this year that the restaurant also expanded its menu and hours by adding a Sunday brunch options.

The restaurant’s regular menu consists of a wide variety of fresh, contemporary American food, which guests can enjoy in small plates offering the palette a selection of diverse cuisine, or as larger traditional entrées. Locally sourced ingredients are used whenever possible to provide patrons with the fresh, bright flavors of the region.

Throughout the past four years, Kitchen on George has hosted community events for local residents including two successful sold-out events including “Pooches on the Patio,” an event benefiting the Mobile SPCA that received national media coverage, and a Wine Dinner featuring Food Network TV star Chef Ben Vaughn, host of the Food Network’s television show “Health Inspectors” and also host of 2013's World Food Championships in Las Vegas.

Additionally, Kitchen on George regularly represents the Alabama Gulf Seafood Coalition locally and regionally by participating in events including the National Shrimp Festival in Mobile, Ala., as well as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fish Fry held in Washington, D.C., among others.

Kitchen on George employs two full-time Culinard graduate students as well as four additional students who work in various positions such as hosts, line cooks and prep cooks.

Since opening, Culinard has trained more than 1,000 chefs and has been consistently recognized as an exemplary program by the American Culinary Federation. As a result of Kitchen on George’s success in Mobile, Culinard opened additional restaurants. Kitchen on Cary, located in Richmond, VA., and Kitchen on San Marco in Jacksonville, Fla. Both restaurants follow Kitchen on George’s successful example in fashioning its menu and décor.

Kitchen on George supports Culinard, the Culinary Institute of Virginia College in Mobile, where our staff of professional chefs provide a teaching kitchen environment for culinary and pastry arts students from Culinard.
