More about Kittrell Volunteer Fire Department

The Kittrell Volunteer Fire Department (District 17) was founded by charter in 1990 by members of the Kittrell and Readyville communities. Fire service at that time was provided by the Rutherford Volunteer Fire Department. While being an outstanding fire department in itself, the RVFD was simply too far away from the Kittrell area to provide adequate fire protection to the community.

The Kittrell Volunteer Fire Department went into operation based out of the old Kittrell School shop building (Station 1).

This station houses:

1701, a 1000 gallon capacity 1991 Freightliner with Pierce pump.

1703, Under Construction

1704, a 2006 Dodge Ram 4x4 brush truck with a 250 gallon tank and pump.

Rescue 17, a extrication and rescue unit, part of the Rutherford County Fire And Rescue Department and primarily staffed by KVFD members.

A second station was also created in a service bay based out of Bud's Tire to cover the western part of the district (Station 2). In mid-2010, a separate building was constructed away from the main shop area. This station houses 1702, KVFD's primary pumper, based on a 2000 Freightliner chassis, which carries 1250 gallons of water. Since some of Bud's Tire's employees are also members of the department, response time during the day is that of a fully staffed station.

In September 2010, in cooperation with the newly created Rutherford County Fire And Rescue Department, KVFD began housing and staffing a rescue squad, which is utilized to perform vehicle extrication and rescue in the eastern part of Rutherford County.

KVFD is an ISO Class 5/9 department, providing professional fire protection services to the Kittrell, Readyville and eastern Rutherford County area. This area has a population of over 6,100 citizens. The department also responds to motor vehicle accidents (as requested) and roadway obstruction incidents (trees blocking the roadway, etc.). In addition to it's primary territory, the department also provides mutual aid response to the Lascassas and Southeast Rutherford areas.

The Chief is John Ingle. Members of the department include paid municipal firefighters, EMTs and EMRs. All members undergo the same training as a paid fire fighter would encounter.

There is department training every Monday and Thursday night at 7pm at Station 1.

KVFD is always looking for dedicated volunteers to serve in the department. Contact the department via e-mail or telephone for more information (contact information listed below). KVFD performs criminal background checks on all new recruits.

The department conducts a ham breakfast fundraiser on the third Saturday of each month (except in May, June, July and December) at Station 1. These dates are listed on the department's calendar.

KVFD is dispatched through the Communications Division of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department.
