Knights of Columbus 14057

The St. Theodore Guerin Council 14057 is located in Palos Heights, Illinois at St. Alexander parish. Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practicing Catholic men who are at least 18 years of age. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month.

The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic family fraternal service organization with 1.9 million members. It provides members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, their communities, families and young people.

There are four degrees within the Knights of Columbus. Each degree ceremony imparts a lesson on the Order's core virtues of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.

The history of the Knights goes back to 1881 when a small group of men met in the basement of St. Mary's Church on Hillhouse Avenue in New Haven, Connecticut, called together by their 29-year-old parish priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, who wanted to provide a way to care for the widows and orphans left behind when a family breadwinner died. On March 29, 1882, the Connecticut state legislature officially chartered the Knights of Columbus.

Our council is named for Mother Theodore Guerin who was canonized a Saint by Pope Benedict XVI shortly after the founding of our Council in 2006. She was born in France in 1798. With five other Sisters she came to America in 1840 and founded the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary of the Woods, who served our parish school for many years.
