More about Kolar Toyota ALS Fishing Tournament

Why We Fish!

The Kolar Toyota ALS Fishing Tournament started in 1995 by family and friends of Kevin Kolquist. Kevin had been diagnosed with ALS and they wanted to do something to make a difference. The tournament has grown from that very first tournament. All proceeds from the event go to The ALS Association, Minnesota/North Dakota Chapter.

The ALS Association is the only non-profit organization fighting Lou Gehrig’s Disease on every front. By leading the way in global research, providing assistance for people with ALS through a nationwide network of chapters, coordinating multidisciplinary care through certified clinical care centers, and fostering government partnerships, The Association builds hope and enhances quality of life while aggressively searching for new treatments and a cure.

Each year, the Kolar Toyota ALS Fishing Tournament brings communities together in the fight against Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Though we participate for various reasons, we are united in our quest to find a cure for ALS.

CELEBRITY HOSTS

We are very appreciative of our celebrity hosts' commitment to the ALS Walleye Tournament and the fight against ALS.

Kent Hrbek

Kent Hrbek has been committed to ALS research and patients since his father, Ed Hrbek, died of ALS in 1982. Kent and Jeanie Hrbek have raised over $1 million to help fund ALS programs. They have donated their time visiting people with ALS, organizing fund raisers and serving as honorary chairs for the ALS Association, MN/ND/SD Chapter. Kent has retired from the field, but will not retire against the fight against ALS until there is a cure.

Darby Hendrikson

Darby Hendrickson, formerly with the Minnesota Wild, is a sports analyst for Fox Sports North. He holds true to his Richfield, Minnesota roots by staying involved in an event he’d witnessed out the windows of his summer residence on Island Lake. The event is the “ALS Fishing Tournament.” Darby is thrilled to join the celebrity line-up for the event and do his part to help rally support to find a cure for ALS.

Jim Johnson

As a professional athlete, Jim has had the opportunity to be involved in a number of great causes. He had a friend diagnosed with ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease, and felt compelled to help start the "ALS Fishing Tournament" held in Duluth. As an outdoor enthusiast, he looks forward to returning to Duluth for this great event. So, get your gear ready and lets go fill those stringers.
