About DJ Stephens:

DJ Stephens has been training in combat and competive sport for over 30 years. As a young teenager he attended Jhon Rhee Self Defense Institute until he decided to train privately with several local black belts. When he was old enough he went on to fight as an amateur boxer for Fenley’s Boxing Gym in Northeast DC where his father Mr. David McCrea was a well-known boxing coach. Soon his father sent him to train under HAM AC where he fought in The DC Golden Glove Tournament.

DJ found a love for body building as a young adult and after winning several local natural bodybuilding contest including Mr. Annapolis, East Coast bodybuilding contest and the Potomac Cup. He of course went on to train several other young bodybuilders to do the same.

In the late 90s DJ decided to return to his roots of martial arts. He trained for several years in Hapikido under master YUNG SUNG LEE and then went on to receive his black belt in Tae Kwon Do under master Gerald Dawson. With a desire to train more adults DJ found Krav Maga, an Isreali self-defense system. He trained every day for several hours and within just a few years he became an expert level practitioner and the head instructor The Krav Maga Institute in Washington DC.

After recovering from an injury DJ has become obsessed with learning proper functional movement and stared training his clients not only train safely but to train pain free. He is a certified personal trainer, certified MMA coach and is currently studying to be a functional training specialist.
