Named after Krišjānis Barons, the prolific collector of Latvian folk songs, or dainas, the Latvian School of Chicago was founded in 1950 to further educate Latvian children in all aspects of Latvian language and culture. More than 60 years later, nearly 100 children still attend the school, where Latvian classes are held every Saturday.
