The Laconia Area Bicycle Exchange (LABE) is an all-volunteer non-profit, and a 501(c)(3) affiliate of the Bike-Walk Alliance of New Hampshire. The primary purpose of the LABE is to provide a means of inexpensive alternative transportation in the form of refurbished bicycles ― bike locks and helmets are also offered ― to people who would benefit from greater mobility as it relates to work, family and personal living, and to help people who cannot afford an automobile or who do not have a valid driver’s license. It follows that many of clients of the LABE are referred to the program by local human service organizations as well as by concerned community members. Other benefits of the LABE include utilizing bicycles that are otherwise left in storage and disrepair, and building a more bicycle-safe, environmentally friendly community.
