Lake Arlington, TX

Lake Arlington serves as the source of drinking water for over 500,000 people in Arlington and surrounding communities, and is also a great place for boating, fishing, and skiing!

Lake Arlington covers approximately 2,250 surface acres and has a watershed of 143 square miles spanning eleven incorporated communities and two counties.

The City of Arlington recognized the need for additional water supply as the City grew and when the General Motors manufacturing plant was proposed, and began construction of the lake in 1956, completing the project near the end of the 1950s drought on March 31, 1957. The engineers who built Lake Arlington said it would take three years to fill, but it filled in only 27 days in late spring 1957, earning it the title of “Miracle Lake”.

The City of Arlington has developed a Master Plan for Lake Arlington. The Plan will be used as a short and long-term planning tool to:
- Protect the city’s water quality
- Protect the city’s water supply
- Optimize recreational opportunities
- Identify impacts of future development
