Laskey's Deep Roots Farm

Deep Roots Farm is a small scale farm operated by Lee and Suzy Laskey and family. The Laskey name has been rooted in Leelanau county for over a 100 years and the farm is operated on family land so the name "Deep Roots" just seemed like a fitting choice.

Deep Roots farm is involved in community supported agriculture (CSA) but a term more fitting for our operation would be friends/family supported agriculture because we don't see ourselves as a vendor/client based operation but a friends/neighbor operation. Keeping our cliental to a limited number allows us more flexibility to help guarantee that we can provide the produce you expect and costs down for our friends and family.

A lot of farms that offer CSAs also market farm. We've decided to deviate from this by only offering CSA. We want you to be ensured that our best quality crops are going to you and not to a farm stand. This also allows us to help customize your basket to your eating needs. While we may occasionally fill orders for non-CSA members it will only occur when we have an overabundance of an item. Our members are priority and will always be.

Our area is blessed with a multitude of farm markets and CSAs for a person to choose from and each has their own niche' so what makes ours different from the rest? At Deep Roots Farm we try to get out crops to you earlier and longer than the typical peak season where you receive an overabundance of an item and then it's gone. Our greens get planted 3-4 times a season. You have a certain crop that you really enjoy but we don't carry let us know. If our climate allows it we will grow it for you.

Keeping ourselves limited on our size helps keep cost down, creates more flexibility on what we grow for you, and allows us the chance to keep good on a promise to provide you the food you expect by replanting if a crop is lost to frost, disease or some other unexpected circumstance. Being smaller allows us to minimize time from plant to plate providing you with absolutely the freshest vegetables possible.

Is this the best laid out business model? Probably not but these are the things you do when you are working with friends and family.
