Latter Rain Church Of God In Christ

The Latter Rain Church Of God In Christ was founded In Sherman, Texas around the year of
1977 by the late Elder Cleve Johnson. The Lord inspired him to start a church in Sherman
with the assistance of Superintendent W.C. Bradley, from Spencer, Oklahoma. Elder Johnson found two shacks right beside the railroad tracks on Brockett Street. There was much opposition to him starting a church in that location because there was a club across the street and a prostitute house down the block. People took him to the mayor and the city council, proclaiming that there will never be a church on Brockett Street. After much prayer and faith, the mayor told him, “Go start your church right there and don’t let a devil in hell stop it.” The church was named Latter Rain Church Of God In Christ.

In 1987 the church was burned down by an arsonist; someone who had attended service there and became offended by the word of God. That did not stop Elder Johnson and his congregation. He then had the opportunity to build a bigger sanctuary. Elder Cleve Johnson Served as founder and pastor of Latter Rain COGIC for over 30 years.

Having been lead by the spirit of the Lord, Elder Johnson turned the leadership and pastoral
care of the church over to Elder James Ezell in January of 2007. Pastor James Ezell then purchased and moved to 823 S. Gribble St. in 2013 with a vision of growth in ministry.
